First-Time Passport Applicants OR Renewing Passport for the First Time Adult (Adult Age 16 or Older)

Required Documents

If you are an adult (over 16 years old) applying for your first U.S. passport, or an adult (over 16 years old) renewing your passport for the first time since you turned 16, you must appear in-person at an Embassy or Consulate.

 

Please bring the following to your scheduled appointment:

1.  Confirmation of your appointment for passport services.

2. Proof of U.S. citizenship (original + 1 photocopy)
a. A full validity U.S. passport (currently valid or expired)
b. U.S. birth certificate (should have parents’ names, a seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar’s office – hospital birth certificates are not acceptable)
c. Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240/FS-1350)
d. Certificate of Naturalization
e. Certificate of Citizenship

3. Proof of identification (original + 1 photocopy)
a. Current U.S. Passport book or a valid, unexpired form of identification (e.g. drivers license, military ID card, foreign passport, or other government-issued photo ID).

4. Form DS-11 passport application, completed (in English); do not sign form until asked to do so by a consular officer at your appointment.
You are required to use the Passport Wizard (link below) to complete your application. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.  If you do not bring the completed form, we may ask you to reschedule your appointment.

5. One recent (less than 6 months old) passport sized (5cm x 5cm) photograph. See our photo requirements here.

6. Payment: We accept U.S. Dollars, Saudi Riyals, and U.S. credit cards. Our credit card payment machine is not always available, so we recommend you carry USD or Saudi Riyals with you to your appointment. You may also pay online using the U.S. government’s secure payment site, Pay.gov via Form DS-11 Passport Application Fee link. After you respond to some questions about the applicant, you will see the correct fee. Passport application fees:

$165 USD or 627 SAR for Passport Book (only) — OR — $195 USD or 741 SAR for Passport Book and Passport Card

7. Evidence of presence in the U.S.: First time adult applicants with a U.S. birth certificate may be requested to provide evidence of their mother’s presence in the United States at the time of their birth. This might include hospital records, parents’ school transcripts or employment records, old passports/visas, or other secondary evidence of citizenship.

8. Age Progression Photos: If your last passport was issued more than ten years ago or when you were a small child or infant, we may ask to see additional evidence of identity or photos that cover that period since your last passport.  Please bring printed copies of photos with you to your appointment.  You will not be allowed to bring cell phones with you into the Embassy or Consulate.

– Passport renewals take 3-4 weeks, so plan your travel accordingly.
– Old passports will be canceled and returned with the newly issued passport.
– There is not expedited option.
– We recommend you make copies of your passport and Saudi visa and carry a copy on you while your passport is being renewed, especially if you do not have an iqama.
